Important Dates:  Registration (by Feb 18th), Jr. VFW Tryouts (April  20th)

These competitive leagues are played on full sized, 90-foot diamonds, preparing players for the High School Program. Home games are usually played at Norse Park. Jr. VFW typically plays two games per week with travel to communities in Dane and neighboring counties. Senior VFW may play 2 or more games per week in addition to weekend tournaments. Players are expected to attend pre-season and in-season practices.

Junior VFW Teeners
Current 8th graders will try out for Junior VFW April 20th. Based on numbers registered, we will attempt to field two teams for league play (2 games per week), which begins mid- May. No league standings are kept. A tournament team will be formed to play area tournaments in Oregon, Monroe, Waterloo and others at the discretion of the coach. Junior VFW will focus on development of players at a variety of positions, and teaching of the game on a larger, regulation field. Pitching will be a huge emphasis of Junior VFW with many different players getting an opportunity to pitch.

Senior VFW Teeners
Senior VFW will focus on development of skills at a variety of positions with the beginning of specialization, proper base running, bunt defense, first and third situational defense, and proper fundamentals of the game of baseball. Pitcher development is also a focus for this program. The Senior VFW team will be organized following the high school season. This team will play in tournaments. League standings determine participation in the Senior VFW State Tournament.

Freshman may be encouraged to try out for the Legion program based on ability level and numbers registered. Eighth graders may be invited to try out for the Senior VFW team if numbers are low for a particular summer season.

Players registered for VFW Teener baseball and a parent or adult will be expected to work at the VFW food stand during Syttende Mai.

Stoughton Baseball reserves the option to assign players to teams where they will best succeed and progress.
